The idea of growing a burger in a laboratory seems like farfetched science fiction, however recently this prospect has become closer to reality than ever before. Using synthetic meat made from a small amount of cells from a living animal and growing it into lumps of muscle tissue could provide numerous ethical and economic benefits. For example killing animals for meat will no longer be required and without the need for livestock the environmental damage of keeping livestock can be avoided. Similarly growing meat will eventually become far cheaper than raising livestock, increasing profits and saving time.
