Through the national nanotechnology initiative, the USA has invested 3.7 billion dollars, the European Union 1.2 billion dollars and japan 750 million dollars. Scientists debate the future implication of nanotechnology, suggesting that the technology could have profound effects on the global economy and even cause doomsday scenarios.
